MEET MR. HURST

Mr. Hurst is the Director of Bands at MMHS.
Joshua Hurst received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Utah Valley University, and he graduated from American Fork High School. While attending UVU he participated as the principal clarinetist in the Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra. In 2016 Joshua was a UVU Concerto Competition Winner where he performed as a soloist with the Orchestra. He currently plays bass clarinet for the Utah Wind Symphony.
During Joshua’s time as a university student he actively sought after teaching experiences. He started out as a Woodwind Instructor for the Westlake Marching Thunder. Later, Josh went over to American Fork where he served as a clarinet/woodwind instructor for three years. During this time, he also was a visual/woodwind instructor for the Lone Peak Marching Band. While at Lone Peak and American Fork, he helped both programs to achieve state titles in their divisions and has helped American Fork Marching Band to receive 3 BOA Western Divisional Titles, a BOA National Semi-Finals appearance, and an appearance at the Macey’s Day Parade.
This is Joshua’s first year at Maple Mountain High School, and his first year acting as Director of Bands. He hopes to be continuously learning and improving his teaching. He has many aspirations and goals, and Joshua always strives to do his best in every aspect of his life.
Joshua is married to the lovely Cambri Hurst. They met doing what they love, teaching students music. While student teaching at Westlake HS and working as a woodwind instructor for the marching band with Cambri, Joshua discovered his partner in crime. The Hurst family currently resides in Spanish Fork, Utah.
